This morning I had a meeting at the capitol with Governor Janet Napolitano. I have come to admire her over this past couple of years sitting on her Faith and Community Initiatives Council and more recently having more of these small meetings with her. I have come to know her on a more personal level and have found her to be an interesting combination of tough political savvy and kindness and compassion and sincere concern for others. This morning was a prime example as she expressed her condolences for the loss of President Hinckley. She shared with me how much she had enjoyed meeting President Hinckley a couple of years ago and then showed us a small bronze depicting the saints trek across the plains that President Hinckley had given her. It made me so thankful that her exposure to the Church and the Gospel was a wonderful and blessed experience. It has opened a lot of doors for the work I do here in our little East Valley.
I wonder how many other people in the world have had the same inroads built for them by our beloved President Hinckley. He was and always will be a symbol of all that is good in this world. I am thankful to have been alive in this era and to have been led by such a great prophet. I look forward to all the blessings we will have under the direction of President Monson and hope that he feels of the love and support of members all over the world as he takes on this grand new responsibility.
